Act Art
100artists, 1 night, 1 venue; this is the event I went to last weekend. It was a massive happening in probably one of the biggest clubs at the London Bridge area. As the website states: the event is a testing ground for new experimental, radical, confrontational and non-mainstream works…

There were many stage performances, installations, short movies and loads of people. One of the oddest shows (for my taste) was titled “Breast feeding”. It happened in one of the small cubic-type rooms, a girl dressed in pyjamas was breast-feeding guests. A friend of mine went in and was very excited by the experience but for me the thought of it made my skin crawl. It is hard for me to see the cool-art side of this performance. It seems to be novel and it made me surprised and reacted with the goosy skin, but is this a piece which we can consider art? Nature invented the breast-feeding process a long time ago, and it is an intimate child-mother moment which looks odd when performed on the public. My friend insisted that I must try it but somehow I couldnot force myself into it, even the explanation that actually there is a small tube connected between the nipple and the milk bottle and a person sucks the milk out of the bottle did not really help me. The other strange performance was by a witch doctor who was conjuring something on the crowd of volunteers and "healing" them using strange hand movements ….

The last thing worth mentioning is the installation of a small room with cctv. In this room anybody could lock themselves in and do anything they wanted, and others could watch them on screens. One of my friends got lured into the room by a girl and from the pictures it seems that they were having fun while I was working on the incriminating evidence by taking as many photos as possible.

It seems that these days the art world is ruled by the gay/lesbian community, which makes me wonder if they are really more talented than the straight ones or it is simply the fashion thing. Probably fashion, why would otherwise Madonna kiss Britney on stage …
